The world loves a lover. But some people prefer cats with a more stand-offish personality—those that keep their distance. Others love a lap cat—one that will cuddle. And when you rescue, like most of us do, you never know what you’ll get. But I’ve learned over the years that a rather distant cat who watches from across the room might morph into a wonderful lap cat as she ages. It has happened in our home.
We have a neighbor who used to take his cat for a walk and the cat, a large Himalayan, rode the route on his shoulder. One day, the neighbor walked past with the cat in a baby sling—he told us, the cat got too heavy to carry on my shoulder. That was one adaptable cat and obviously loved being handled.
Not all cats come with a desire to cuddle. Here are some of the most notoriously loving cat breeds. Maine coon, Birman, Persian, Tonkinese, Ragdoll, Siamese, Sphynx. You’ll notice that some of these cats appeared on the list of most intelligent cat breeds, as well. Hmmm, do you think it follows that an intelligent cat is also a people cat?
