Paws Up for Wednesday – The Rare Male Calico

Yes, there is such an animal and boy, are they cute. A friend sent me this link to a news report about a male calico. This adorable calico was recently turned over to a cat rescue facility in Colorado along with his two calico sisters.

How rare is the male calico? I’ve never seen one, have you? They say just one out of 3,000 calicos are male. And did you know that they call a male calico a unicorn cat. Thus, this little calico (you must go to the site and see his picture—adorable!!!) is temporarily named Unicorn.

Enjoy!

Sorry I couldn’t copy the pix of the male calico for you. I’m using one of Olivia’s baby pictures here.

We had a male dilute calico at the Oregon Humane Society a few years ago. No one really paid him any mind. Since Male calicos are usually sterile, they’re of no interest to breeders. Of course all us volunteers loved him like crazy. He was adopted, but it took some time.
